Computer Systems and Data Analysis
A genome center is not complete without the ability to track, manage and analyze very large data sets. At the genome center we use computers for several important tasks:
- All of our experiments are queued through the computer systems and tracked through the laboratories by computers scanning bar codes attached to the experimental projects.
- The main servers store terabytes of sequence and assembly data that we use to produce genome sequences.
- All of the data analysis is done using computer assistance and computational algorithms so that we are able to accomplish our scientific goals.
- In addition to our main data servers, we also utilize cluster computing to speed up and parallelize data analysis tasks and routine computation.
